The US has no wish to directly confront Russia. If that happened, all bets are off. It could very easily go nuclear. The Cold War hawk mentality is alive and well in the Pentagon. Russia has the toys, too. Zelensky is grandstanding to garner popular opinion. He's become a social media star. He is milking it for all it's worth. If he was as smart as he presents himself to be, which he is not, he would concede the small part of Ukraine to Russia that Putin wants, namely Donetsk and Luhansk, settle for the greater remainder, and put in writing Ukraine that remains militarily neutral. Everyone goes home happy, or at least, merely name-calling. The longer Zelensky grandstands and postpones, the worse it becomes. He is expendable.
You are ignorant of basic facts on the matter. Ukraine had its neutrality “in writing ”, it was written in its CONSTITUTION, and that did not stop Russia from invading. Putin does not just want Donetsk and then he’ll call it a day. I understand you want to go back to regularly scheduled programming and your comfortable world, but that world is an illusion, it’s sustained by dozen buffer states like Ukraine.
