I don’t really put much faith in 2s, to be honest. DD brought some home in 3rd grade LA, I think. The teacher couldn’t explain why, really. Then she got 3s and then 4s. Looking at the work she was turning in, I couldn’t tell a qualitative difference. I think the teacher liked to show that the kids were making progress from one quarter to the next, and this is how she did it. Every parent I spoke to spotted the same pattern. She was a terrible teacher.
I have a student who looked at his Progress Report at the end of the day and was shocked that he had “another 2” in PE. For some reason he thought he couldn’t get a “2” two quarters in a row.
Don’t even get me started on PE. All the girls get 3s in PE (they’ve apparently discussed it). The PE teachers don’t even know anyone’s name! My 6th grader says she has no idea how they assign grades when they don’t know who’s who.
