What I don’t understand is why we even need mandates. You can look at the vaccine data, and see that it’s very effective. Why dig in your heels and wait for the government to tell you to get vaccinated, or wear a mask? What happened to common sense? Self-preservation? Caring about the common good?
If the government recognized natural immunity and were truthful about the "risk" to certain populations, we would have more trust in what the government says.
Natural immunity is not what it is cracked up to be. Natural Immunity proponents refuse to recognize that getting it to build immunity carries significant risk, having killed 900,000 Americans and left millions more with serious ongoing health issues. They fail to acknowledge that it's not just the elderly and obese, that for example 230,000 children have gotten cases of covid severe enough to require hospitalization. Glenn Beck and other anti-vaxxers have been finding out the hard waay that previously having had covid is no guarantee whatsoever andd Beck has it worse the second time than he did the first. Anti-vaxxers refuse to recognize that the vaccines have already saved millions of lives whereas fighting the vaccines is doing nothing but causing death after death after death.
While natural immunity may not be the safest way to go, the fact remains that it does “count” immunologically. It appears to be just as effective as a booster, and lasting the same amount of time. For the CDC to ignore it and it’s immunologic basis has led to growing mistrust of anything they say. Public health only has so much mileage it can get out of people and it’s blown through it all with nonsense like this.
