It’s. A. Fairy tale.
Yes it is a fairy tale, but it pushes a hyperbolic narrative of a real and complex condition that are lived experiences of individuals. Imagine if your own health diagnosis was belittled into an animated fairy tale characterization? While I am not a fan of 'cancel culture,' I believe Dinklage's response to the Snow White revival is absolutely warranted. It's inappropriate, insensitive and unnecessary. Disney has plenty of ideas and makes great movies. No one is asking for the snow white reprise.
Honestly, they are more like gnomes than anything else based on how the costumes are depicted, I just realized that they do possess characteristics of dwarves from LOTR ( works on mining, hardworkers), but I agree, there is no need for remake. I also distinctly remember snow white's physical description in the movie, so this remake that they are making is really just asking for trouble. I get why Dinklage is annoyed by this, and he is right. As a child, snow white was my first encounter with the word dwarves, it was so confusing to me if they were real people or mythical creatures based on that story, I never really met any real life dwarves before, and I was surprised the first time I saw someone in real life on TV. Later on when I got older, I found out about their medical condition. I'm sure he had really bad experiences about this all through his life, and totally understand him to want a change on the way little people are depicted on TV. They are historically treated like a thing rather than a person on TV.
