I agree strongly with having police less involved with mental health and other situations where social workers would be more appropriate.  I also think that cops in elementary and probably middle schools are a bad idea.

However, as someone who attended a high school much more violent and worse run than Wilson, I was delighted when they assigned a cop full time to my school many years ago.  Having an adult in the school with the actual training to intervene in the crime that was going on (and arrest people when needed) was great.  And, when a small number of[b] kids were arrested and didn't come back[/b], the school changed for the better.[/quote]
