This is a vast oversimplification of the issue. But at the end of the day it comes down to this --- the deal on spending, taxes, debt, cannot be done by democrats alone without a major cost to them. If they go into the next election and increase majorities then yes they can do what they want; republicans likely to take House and Senate though. The reality on the ground is that they cannot get what they want alone. That means they can only get what they can negotiate. That is not going to be what they want. But they take what they can get and fight another day or just lose. There is no win scenario here for dems. [/quote]
