So you do not know the amount of blacks kids trying to achieve good students and learn vs. the ones who are not. The squeak wheel also gets noticed the most. Also, she is a sub and when I was a kid it was let's see what tricks we could play on the sub. We did not behave the same as we did with our regular teachers. Also she is with first graders. Check with your one black friend and ask if they heard this generalization how they would feel and how their kid would feel. The problem is that what if the kids heard? What if it impacts one kid and their self esteem? What if I kid hears her and believes her and gives up in first grade? Chances are those first graders were still the bright eyed eager to please kids and now she has turned them into someone who thinks they do not have a chance in life. Who believes the deck is stacked against them. One kid giving up, is one too many for me. Sorry, the comment is inappropriate for the school system and I guarantee, if it could be proven that she said it she wouldnot be called to sub again. Sorry, if you would want your white child exposed to negative comments but personally I do not think stereotypes should be discussed around 1st graders. The problem is that are the kids trying to achieve, the exception of the rule. I know the black graduation rate is more than 50% in my county. I will have to check the exact rate. Kids could drop out but they do not. If you stay in school do you care or not. In poor areas, white or black, you often see poor behavior and I would bet that the majority of the white poor kids behave the same way but she did not comment about them.
