You are lucky to have this option. Many families would make the move if it was an option.
PP here. We’re struggling with whether the academics are comparable in the upper grades. I hear so many frustrations with MV’s curriculum and teaching, I worry we’ll regret trading convenience for quality in a few years and not be able to go back.
Don’t believe everything that you read in DCUM.
It's not only DCUM, but actual parents that I know. This is hard to assess because the 8th street campus does not have upper grades yet.
PP. That's my take as well. I see more parents wanting to leave MV in the upper grades than LAMB parents. That's all anecdotal and it feels like charter parents tend to either have rose colored glasses or a personal vendetta, but aside from test scores (which are a wash from what I can tell) and playground conversations, what else is there to go by? Montessori is great, but not something I'd make a deciding factor for an upper elementary kid.

We had this option but turned it down, mainly because a lot of MV families were also unhappy particularly around the admin's opening of this new campus, plus a lot of discussion about no DCI guarantee.
Now that MV8 seems to be doing well we have re applied but have not gotten in, though unsure we would accept spot.
What you would be giving up is Montessori. A lot of people seem to forget that LAMB is not only about the Spanish, but a type of education which is markedly different from what you would find at MV. There are also rumors of MV8 moving too. It has no playground.

NP. This really isn’t true. I did the 16th St Heights to SD campus to downtown for our first 3 years at LAMB. It definitely isn’t a detour and was way out of the way I needed to go (worked down by the White House at that time). I would actually say that the opposite direction (Brooklyn’s to Kingsbury to downtown) is more direct depending on where one’s office is. Just pop down Arkansas to Piney Branch/Beach/Rock Creek (one way at rush hour).

If the shuttle is a significant cost, then it makes sense to use that money in a way that benefits the entire school instead of a small minority of students. On the other hand, if the school made promises about staying in Brookland and/or providing a shuttle, then it seems reasonable to expect them to follow through.
That’s the point of this whole thread. School lied to parents about the permanent location at SD. Now there likely will be no shuttle. If no shuttle this year, pretty good bet there will be no shuttle the following year.
Then a current parent, who doesn’t have much insight or empathy, pats herself on the back about her commute in the past which is much different than the horrendous commute the families at SD will have to do.
This is why parents are angry. The SD families are treated as 2nd class citizens if that.

Well if you don’t like it, we’ll happily take your seat. Better than moving to Maryland. 😉
