Word on the street is the 08 team is being shaken up. Their current coach (LC) is out next year and not listed as coaching any team next year, several current players were moved down, and new players from Arlington/Loudoun are joining. That team has been together since U9 so if true- that’s some pretty big changes. Why the h@ll wants to drive to Alexandria from Loudoun?
If this is the case, iit would reflect that there is no meaningful movement between teams within the club.
Exactly. They rather get outside players before they move someone up!
Well if all of the same kids were on the team from U9 until the current rising U14, that tells you that developmentally something was wrong and it was not academy-style. In a true system, the top 12-16 kids vary as they grow and change from 8-13 and then even more so through the middle school years until high school. At most Clubs, U12 is the year that they really start mixing up the teams within the age group. If it was status quo for a long time, it's no wonder they need to make changes at this point. I would expect a lot more changes U15-17 because some boys don't even hit a growth spurt until 15/16 years old.
It wasn’t the case. They were really really good and added players as things (and age) progressed. Covid froze tryouts last year (anybody remember?). The team has been top notch for a long time and people had a tough time cracking the roster inside or outside the club. They have improved as this season has gone on after a rough start, but if you are competing against MLS Academies and Bethesda, you need to broaden the talent base, and that’s what they can do now. There are new players on the team already playing major minutes this season.
