If you are a top 10 player they will allow for extra time. Normally they have already verbally talked with the families long before tryouts. If you or your kid is on the bubble of deciding the best team they will give you 2 weeks. They may also ask for a conference to understand the issue. IF you are new or not the top you normally have 48 hours and some clubs 5 days.
Not the case at all. Maybe that works where you are. They gave all kids on the top team 48 hours to decide. As a result, they are losing two of their top five players for sure, and likely more.
I don't get this mentality. Why are all these top team players trying out at multiple clubs anyway? Someone previously said every year they call and do practice tryouts in advance of real tryouts. If 2 or more of your top 5 players are not happy and are trying out elsewhere, then it's not a huge loss. Sounds like the partnership wasn't working anyway. Weird that multiple top players are continually fishing around. Is it the grass is always greener mentality? I can see one or two moves between littles and highschool. At some point you should research, pick somewhere and stay. Changing clubs is not like a yearly flu shot that should be repeated annually.
Some clubs have different, usually more advanced opportunities at the older ages. TBH, if your kid is 8-10, you are best to go with your local club. If your son/daughter is showing they are serious about soccer (and you know by 11-12 which kids have potential), there are certain programs who have ECNL, MLS Next, etc to truly challenge a youth. If the kid is not considering high school / college soccer, not worth it. For those who are, worth the extra 15 minute drive in many peoples' views - especially when you're already dedicating 6-8 hours a week as it is - what's another hour of total weekly drive time? The clubs that are well known for producing talent are Bethesda and Alexandria. Also, not everyone loves their coach and if they are getting the coach for another year, they may want a change of scenery. Finally, playing different styles allows the kid to grow as a player. Same system has same habits - good and bad.
