Seriously, there are a million reasons he didn't get into those 10 schools, ranging from just bad luck to writing terrible essays to geographic preference to letting the entitled attitude show through to anything in between.

+1. For as much time as people spend on these college forums, when will they understand that admission is about more than stats.  The tips schools could fill their classes with perfect stats kids several times over? Thanks It’s a lottery among high stats and people with unique accomplishments once the sports and legacy spots are filled.[/quote]

Was basically coming to post exactly this. And many, many of the people with "perfect" stats didn't get there via meritocracy. They got there via tutors and test retakes and schools that juice GPAs, etc. Some did it on their own, but many (most) did not. This country has never been a meritocracy when it comes to college admissions -- it's always been based on other factors. It's weird to me to watch all these people get up in arms about affirmative action and holistic admissions as though these schools have not ALWAYS engaged in some version of it.[/quote]
