It's the hair and facial features that gave it away. This folktale was popular in the years following Reconstruction. Novels abounded with the grim story of a baby "as black as pitch" born to an ostensibly white couple. Doesn't happen. [/quote] This is not true. I’m mixed AA and it happens. It has happened in my family that babies were significantly darker than the darker parent. [/quote]
