Wow, you are really dumb. "We're" not getting $32K of your signing bonus as taxes. You pay that in withholding and then will get it back based on your annual filing. If you've been unemployed and your overall income is lower, your bonus withholding means squat. And "cutting expenses costs you money in the long run"? You are just not very bright. There are tons of expenses that are for your convenience and not necessities. What are you teaching your kids? That it's fine to budget beyond your means, take handouts when you have other options, and you don't sometimes need to take a bird in the hand while you're looking for your forever home. And employers are not googling your home address to see if you live in a rich neighborhood - first, many resumes I get now only include cell numbers and email addresses; second, many HR departments explicitly prohibit that sort of discrimination; and, third, it could backfire on you have have someone assume that you won't invest as much in the job because you don't need it or that it's better off going to someone who it might make a quality of life difference for. Jesus Christ, I hope you're a troll.
Why would you assume I made less income because I was unemployed? I got severance when laid off in 2020 and 100 percent of my 2019 bonus paid out in 2020. I was not let go for cause. I was out of work a few months but got unemployment once severance ran out for a few weeks then I landed a $5,000 a week consulting gif for five months and now back to work. K I cut to bone all unnecessary stuff, food, shopping, eating out, got car insurance and other things knocked down and did home repairs and lawn work myself when I was off. I dont spend any money. Have not left house in one year, no vacation. No nothing. And my home address is on all my applications and resumes. I got all my interviews directly none through a recruiter. I also told them I have two kids in college and a stay at home wife so I can work OT and travel. I had to fill out FASFA and junk with kids, my one daughter was impressed I asked for 5K a week WFH to do some consulting and got it. In middle of pandemic. While I was unemployed. Guess what my older daughter got an Internship at a FANG type company this summer at $28 an house. She knows you are are worth what you think you are worth. Now I can stop hording cash. If you are not fired for cause, work at a good company, have a good salary and been there at least a few years you do get severance. It is ment to hold you over for a few months to a year. But trouble is I was at point of not working again or landing a job. So very happy have a job. Also happy I am in senior mgt team and reporting to CEO. YOu need a seat at the table. What do you mean leave beyond my means? I already saved for retirement, my kids education and have a ton of equity in my house. I just had cash flow issues. Also not working at this age is horrible. And cash flow was on future cash flows not current. I still have most of my severance money unspent. I plan on throwing it at mortgage in a few weeks. That plus my 40K. Yea it was hard. I have been this road before. Way back in my 30s when hard up I jumped on two jobs I should not have as was scared and took the job, it did not work out. This time I rode it out. If folks were more like me and refused those crap jobs we would not be having this 15 dollar and hour min wage discussion. Heck my 18 year old was making $25 last summer doing instacart
