It was a conscious choice to hold people as property. Slavery was well-protected in the US constitution. It was woven purposefully into the economy of every part of the nation (looking at you, New England). But if I hit a person drunk driving during Beach Week when I was 18 and then at 40 was on Social Media celebrating that epic weekend back then and how great it was being that smashed and driving all over the island wasted, you would hold me accountable.[/quote]
