How old is your son? And how big is the group size? I think those would be the two factors. I think a 4s who is in a little group would benefit from being back and while 4 year olds aren't clean at all, they aren't in the putting everything in their mouth stage. I also think you can gage whether the other parents are the careful type and what they do.

The immediate op above clearly has a lot of anxiety about this. Whoever you are, your guilt about having to use childcare right now is apparent and not necessary. If you have to use childcare, do so proudly and without fear. Outbreaks are happening, no matter who posts about it and no matter whether you read it here or on the news. All you can do is take precautions and hope for the best.

In Maryland 50 of 2200 centers open for essential workers had to close temporarily because of one or more cases. That means the majority have had no issues since March and the other were able to reopen in a few days. They follow CDC guidelines. I’m not sure what “outbreaks” are but most likely child care centers can operate safely. If the criteria is zero kids ever get sick then they can never reopen. We will send our kids when they reopen.
