If you consider that Wake is test optional, only 21% of enrolled students have a reported class rank, and Wake does not report GPA of enrolled students, the school has huge latitude to accept who they want without it hurting any published stats that might impact rankings.  For this reason, I suspect Wake is not really as selective (if you could look at enrolled student stats with equal) as schools like UVA and William & Mary.  [/quote]

That's the cynical view, but probably some truth there.  You can admit full pays and legacies (higher giving) without hurting metrics.  The non-cynical view would be that it could help with the percentage of URM students (again without hurting selectivity metrics).  [b]The cynical view of the non-cynical view would be that having a higher percentage of URM students helps with rankings like USNWR, which now factor social mobility.  [/quote]
