Subject: Tell us about Wake Forest
Wake has gotten harder to get into. And Davidson is ranked higher whether you heard of it or not. They are both very good schools.

Ah, no. Davidson is harder to get into (Davidson ranges from 14% - 19% admittance and WF's best ever was Class of 2021 with a 26.9% admittance rate. Not even close.) Definitely not a step above! WF is a great school, but my DD hated everything about it on her visit. Not sure why, it was a feeling she got and she was not impressed at all.
Stats for enrolled students is a much better way of determining selectivity. (Davidson may still have an edge in that regard.) Many schools induce students who won't be accepted to apply.
I don't know ANYONE who would consider Davidson a better school than Wake Forest.
Never heard of Davidson.

Very well put. My nephew was the VALEDICTORIAN of his class wasn't even considered by Duke about 8 years ago. However, Wake Forest showed a little more class.
He ultimately went to UNC-Chapel Hill which has several benefits over Duke anyways. It worked out for the best

If you consider that Wake is test optional, only 21% of enrolled students have a reported class rank, and Wake does not report GPA of enrolled students, the school has huge latitude to accept who they want without it hurting any published stats that might impact rankings. For this reason, I suspect Wake is not really as selective (if you could look at enrolled student stats with equal) as schools like UVA and William & Mary.
That's the cynical view, but probably some truth there. You can admit full pays and legacies (higher giving) without hurting metrics. The non-cynical view would be that it could help with the percentage of URM students (again without hurting selectivity metrics). The cynical view of the non-cynical view would be that having a higher percentage of URM students helps with rankings like USNWR, which now factor social mobility.

The universities need full pay students to balance their budgets!
Wake told us not even to bother applying ED if we could not afford the cost of tuition. How many people with 2 kids can afford $300k+ per kid for college?
So if you're upper middle class with two kids in DC, let's say HHI of $225K, you better have the savings.

They are struggling to get students to apply as it is now. And they have been test optional for decades. While also maintaining low test score averages.
With more schools going test optional, the advantage of being a test optional school decreases as there is more competition to enroll the same students.
They're also very tuition dependent.
I don’t think that is true. They are one of the most financially fit institutions in the country. Better than UChicago, Tufts, Vanderbilt, Amherst, and others.

There are many colleges with better endowments per student, especially considering Wake has a medical school (medical schools typically have much, much higher endowments per student than other parts of universities. I think Wake's biggest advantage is the average income of the families of students is 11th highest (according to NYT analysis), which probably means they have more paying full tuition or close to full tuition.
