We have a house on the Jersey shore and will probably go there for the summer and work from our house. We won't be a drain on the health care or otherwise as we'll stay in the house and social distance except for bike rides and some beach time and trips to the grocery store. However, we'd have to go to the grocery store here in DC and we're either going to be exposed to germs here in DC (and in term expose people here in DC) or in NJ. We've only been shopping once every 2-3 weeks so we're not kicking up a major amount of virus by our grocery shopping. I don't think that 2 or 3 grocery store trip by one parent over the course of a summer in NJ is going to drastically alter their disease burden. I expect the beaches to be very quiet. Even during normal summer we don't usually go to the beach until 5pm as we work full time from home. By 5pm the beaches are cleared out. There is easily 50 feet between beach goers. If we have any sign of getting sick we'll get the heck out of the beach and go south. We're a doctor and nurse and are fairly savvy about monitoring our own health. Covid patients are not going from asymptomatic to ventilated in 5 minutes. Even the ones who decompensate quickly have a few day of aches, fatigue, etc. Any signs of this and we'll head home. We have no desire to be hospitalized at Shore Memorial in South Jersey.
