My kid did Juniors and didn’t get much out of it. To be fair my child is on the very young side of the birth year. I thought the coerver coaches were fine. No issues with anyone yelling at the kids, but they weren’t particularly skilled at teaching the 6-7 year old set, in my opinion, either. Lots of the instruction went over most kids’ head. Like they would work on field position, only a small subset would seem to get it, then they’d move on to something else and not necessarily expect or reinforce what was just learned. I think if your child is particularly mature , able to listen, and driven then it is worthwhile — just to get so many extra touches at that age. There were a handful of kids who really improved. Mine would have better off sticking with Rec.
This is helpful. PP. Thanks. Curious what you are doing this year if you care to share, as I recall at tryouts we were told that all kids in juniors would be offered a spot on 1 of the mclean travel teams. We opted out of Juniors last year for our 1st, and based on the above, it does not sound like it would be a good fit for 2nd either next year.
From what I’ve seen, they pretty much take every kid for their Juniors program. This is also true the following year for U9 whether you did the Juniors program or not. There pretty much seems to be a spot for most kids on one of the U9 teams aside from the very few where soccer may just not be their correct sport. I think you May have a better chance achieving one of the higher teams at U9 as they will already will have worked with you if it came down to your kid or someone else of comparable talent.
