talk to PARENTS who have done juniors.

It is a failed program. poorly designed and implemented. moneygrab. they take all who show.

R u kidding MYS? Posting on a parents discussion board. Sheesh.

again, don't come here and go find a parent with an older travel player who did this program and get their answer to your questions. price is outrageous now. talented staff is gone.

Coerver is marketing.

$100 agree!!

No issues with anyone yelling at the kids, but they weren’t particularly skilled at teaching the 6-7 year old set, in my opinion, either. Lots of the instruction went over most kids’ head. Like they would work on field position, only a small subset would seem to get it, then they’d move on to something else and not necessarily expect or reinforce what was just learned. I think if your child is particularly mature , able to listen, and driven then it is worthwhile — just to get so many extra touches at that age. There were a handful of kids who really improved. Mine would have better off sticking with Rec.

This is helpful. PP. Thanks. Curious what you are doing this year if you care to share, as I recall at tryouts we were told that all kids in juniors would be offered a spot on 1 of the mclean travel teams. We opted out of Juniors last year for our 1st, and based on the above, it does not sound like it would be a good fit for 2nd either next year.

From what I’ve seen, they pretty much take every kid for their Juniors program. This is also true the following year for U9 whether you did the Juniors program or not. There pretty much seems to be a spot for most kids on one of the U9 teams aside from the very few where soccer may just not be their correct sport.

I think you May have a better chance achieving one of the higher teams at U9 as they will already will have worked with you if it came down to your kid or someone else of comparable talent.

"one of the travel teams" could easily mean the lowest one. In other words "we can't guarantee that a 7 year old will learn anything this year".

Interesting because I had believed Coerver to be mostly interested in skill developing not the tactical side. It seems like at the younger ages Coerver would be perfectly suited to developing technical skills in the younger kids.

Jaon likes to yell. He yelled at my daughter at the tryouts. We accepted the Juniors spot but do not like him at all.

It's been around for years and years, so I'm somewhat surprised this is new for McLean. Chances are, if your child has done anything beyond basic club training, he/she has had some exposure (like toe taps and such). Here's a video with all the basic Coerver moves:

Why wasn't this done last year if it is so appropriate

It is a gap filler because both of the Juniors coaches are moving.

FWIW, did not do U8 Juniors, however DC now plays for MYS. We did Coerver training (skills and camps) and both were excellent and teaching is definitely in line with what is being taught/coached at McLean. Although I'm sure it makes money, if DC really wants more than Rec can offer at U8, I'm sure the Juniors program is still worthwhile.
