Is it not weird that no one at the meeting last night brought up the issue of ASFS sitting outside of its boundaries? That was the whole focus of Dr. Murphy's announcement at the beginning of the school year and how this was "his" plan, and they needed to keep the ASFS community together, etc.? And apparently he and the APS staff gave the school board a memo on why the swap was such a no-brainer and the school board wrote questions asking for clarifications before it was all announced? Was there not a similar process or heads up this time? I can't believe no one, especially the school board, was like, hey wait, didn't we just do a whole big thing on this a few months ago? Of are we just supposed to act like that meeting in August didn't happen? I know the projection numbers went up slightly but that can't be a surprise to anyone-- if they are going to say, well the projections changed since August, doesn't that mean they can just keep flip-flopping every time the projections change? Why make such an early announcement about the swap if they knew they were going to have to walk it back when the projections came out? Obviously, having ASFS sit outside its boundaries isn't that big of a deal (unless, of course, you live near the school and wanted to go there before they do the North Arlignton boundary changes).
Given how much of the criticism of APS in the past has been for their decisions to stay the course on something rather than adapt more quickly to changing conditions, I think attacking them now for being too responsive to changing conditions is a bit ridiculous.
