I don't think I could do that without getting emotionally caught up in the whirlwind of someone new.  Someone exciting that you have no shared responsibilities with always shines a spotlight on my SO's "flaw" (aka being a human that I have to get along with, share physical space with, agree on decisions with, get things done with etc) and I'd constantly be making negative comparisons to the detriment of my relationship.
