I don’t do my kids’ homework, but when they were young, I did help personalize their cubby or locker space. It’s a small, fun thing to do that helps them feel a sense of ownership over their surroundings.
Seriously? This sounds like a bunch of New Age-y mumbo-jumbo. "Sense of ownership over their surroundings? What does that even MEAN? It's their locker. It's their. They'll feel ownership. Done. Not everything has to be overdone-done-done to the hilt. This is ridiculous.
Sorry, but it’s a pretty fun, low effort + high reward parenting move. Part of our back to school shopping includes finding magnets (stickers seem inconsiderate) that the kids like, hanging lights or disco balls, and organizational shelving. It makes them happy, they feel like they have their own space in the school, and it costs me very little time and energy. When my youngest son started school, he really missed our dog during the day, so we taped a silly photo of the dog in his cubby. It made him happy to see it during the day and helped ease his transition. In that case, it made a meaningful difference in my son’s day. As for the “new-agey” part, half the battle in life is being able to walk into a space and feel comfortable and confident enough to make it your own, to own a room or a campus, courtroom, or company. If I can begin to teach that with a few locker decorations when they’re young, then great.
