Seriously? This sounds like a bunch of New Age-y mumbo-jumbo. "Sense of ownership over their surroundings? What does that even MEAN? It's their locker. It's their. They'll feel ownership. Done. Not everything has to be overdone-done-done to the hilt. This is ridiculous.

This is the mom who will trick out her DD's college dorm room to look like a child's bedroom, all in the name of it being a "small, fun thing to do."
Are these locker/cubby decorating moms judging you for not decorating your son’s locker? Probably not. Grow up and find something real to get worked up about.
Exactly, either do it if you like that kind of thing or don't. Do what you want. Maybe your kid really wants it, maybe they don't care. It really isn't something to stress about. Personally, I am totally jealous that locker chandeliers didn't exist when I was a teen because that would have been awesome.

And decorate her first cubicle and plan DD’s entire wedding and commandeer DD’s eventually baby registry...

Sorry, but it’s a pretty fun, low effort + high reward parenting move. Part of our back to school shopping includes finding magnets (stickers seem inconsiderate) that the kids like, hanging lights or disco balls, and organizational shelving. It makes them happy, they feel like they have their own space in the school, and it costs me very little time and energy.
When my youngest son started school, he really missed our dog during the day, so we taped a silly photo of the dog in his cubby. It made him happy to see it during the day and helped ease his transition. In that case, it made a meaningful difference in my son’s day.
As for the “new-agey” part, half the battle in life is being able to walk into a space and feel comfortable and confident enough to make it your own, to own a room or a campus, courtroom, or company. If I can begin to teach that with a few locker decorations when they’re young, then great.
