You know this stuff is all regional right?  Outside of about 10 schools, most high ranking schools aren't held in the same regard outside of their region.  As a Virginian, I'm gaga over UVA, but I get that people from other states wouldn't be as much.  I know that Michigan, UT, UNC, some of the non-Berkley UC's are extremely good schools as well, but I don't hold them in the same regard that people in those states do.  Even a lot of the SLACs that get so much love on DCUM are not well known to me, but obviously they carry a lot more cache in the north east.  I think the thing to remember is that unless one attends an ivy caliber school, most fantastic schools don't have wide spread recognition outside of the region they are located in. [/quote]
Actually Big 10 schools - especially Wisconsin, Michigan, and Indiana-ish - are very, very popular in the northeast and midatlantic. It stems from the anti Semitic quotas and attitudes at the elite institutions in the early 1900s. Smart Jews were shut out of those schools so they headed to the Midwest. [/quote]
