Pretty much no one in the US pays for their PhD if it's in a STEM field. They either have a teaching assistantship (TA) like OP to pay for their education or a research assistantship (RA). Some people get fellowships as well. If you don't know this, then you really shouldn't be providing career advice to OP since you have no understanding of his situation.[/quote]
