Similar here. I'm AA, and grew up middle class in the South.  I don't know anyone personally who's affected by heroin or opiate abuse.  I only keep in contact with a handful of my high school friends (h.s. was 50/50 black/white), but haven't heard of any problems related to either heroin, opiates, or any other substances.

I never said that; I simply answered the question asked re: heroin.  I also explained that I don't keep in contact with a lot of people I went to high school with, who were both black and white.  You made the above leap in logic.

I do have a few people in my family who've had problems with alcohol--one is black; the rest are another race (I'm multiracial).  Never heard of anyone in my family/current social networks trying any drugs besides marijuana.[/quote]
