I know I will get bashed for this here but while I don’t really care for these people, I am still mildly curious. TBH, at this point prefer to reserve judgment. You could all be right and Kate was/is an awful mother who neglected and abused her son Colin while setting the others against him. OTOH, I cannot help but think about Josh Duggard (?) situation and wonder if something similar happened. I mean, if I had one young teen, tween, abusing another one (s) of my children, I would probably send the child away to be contained and treated rather than call the police and have his life completely ruined. Even if not a case of sexual abuse/molestation but “only” physical violence, I don’t think most of you how terrifying it can be to live with someone like that. My aunt went through this with her teenager son and my cousins (his two sisters, also teens - one older and one younger) went through hell while living with him. He hit all of them at some point, the worst being when he choked his younger sister almost to death. It turns out he is schizophrenic and it took them YEARS to find the right combination of medication. He is still unpredictable and can be extremely violent sometimes, usually when he “decides to stop his medication.” Anyhow, I just find it strange that 6 kids, out of 8, want nothing to do with Colin. But maybe you all are right and they were brainwashed by their mother. If that is true, we only have to wait more 10 years or so for the cat to come out of the bag, so to speak.
I agree with you to a point. If his actions were bad enough that he needed to be removed from the house, so be it. But once the child is in a facility, and all parties are safe, a good parent who wants the best for her child would feel an obligation to continue to paren that child. Visit him. Work with the facility. Counseling alone and with the child. Tell dad where the kid is, and work with dad on getting the kid out of the facility and into a home situation with a parent. By all accounts, Kate didn't do any of that. He's her child and she had an ethical and moral obligation to parent him through this, in some way or another.
Jon probably would have disagreed with sending Collin away and would have pulled him out of the facility if he knew earlier. Kate was probably afraid Collin wouldn’t get the treatment he needed if Jon pulled him out. So she didn’t tell him.
No, Jon is no way to blame for this and he could and probably did get the child the help he needed. They were hiding him away for the sake of the show. Kate acted like Jon was the worst father ever and didn't want the kids so if she gave him to Jon she'd have to admit he was ok with the kids.
