TBH, at this point prefer to reserve judgment.
You could all be right and Kate was/is an awful mother who neglected and abused her son Colin while setting the others against him.
OTOH, I cannot help but think about Josh Duggard (?) situation and wonder if something similar happened.
I mean, if I had one young teen, tween, abusing another one (s) of my children, I would probably send the child away to be contained and treated rather than call the police and have his life completely ruined.
Even if not a case of sexual abuse/molestation but “only” physical violence, I don’t think most of you how terrifying it can be to live with someone like that.
My aunt went through this with her teenager son and my cousins (his two sisters, also teens - one older and one younger) went through hell while living with him. He hit all of them at some point, the worst being when he choked his younger sister almost to death.
It turns out he is schizophrenic and it took them YEARS to find the right combination of medication.
He is still unpredictable and can be extremely violent sometimes, usually when he “decides to stop his medication.”
Anyhow, I just find it strange that 6 kids, out of 8, want nothing to do with Colin. But maybe you all are right and they were brainwashed by their mother.
If that is true, we only have to wait more 10 years or so for the cat to come out of the bag, so to speak.
I agree with you to a point. If his actions were bad enough that he needed to be removed from the house, so be it.
But once the child is in a facility, and all parties are safe, a good parent who wants the best for her child would feel an obligation to continue to paren that child. Visit him. Work with the facility. Counseling alone and with the child. Tell dad where the kid is, and work with dad on getting the kid out of the facility and into a home situation with a parent. By all accounts, Kate didn't do any of that. He's her child and she had an ethical and moral obligation to parent him through this, in some way or another.

Jon probably would have disagreed with sending Collin away and would have pulled him out of the facility if he knew earlier. Kate was probably afraid Collin wouldn’t get the treatment he needed if Jon pulled him out. So she didn’t tell him.

He was pretty scummy, and running to the press every few months with ET exclusives and Docuseries isn't a great look for him. What he did for Collin is great, but I still find his motives to be questionable. The reported abuse and Collin's major car accident suggests there may be some truth to Kate's claims. I tend to believe Collin's version is closer to the truth, though.
I'm curious about Mady's sources for Collin's behavior. Hannah still interacts with her other siblings, so I'm wondering if Mady latched onto details from Hannah to support her opinion of him. Hannah is firmly on Team Collin though, and she's the sibling who has spoken out that I tend to believe most.
That doesn’t make sense. Why would he have to pay child support if granted joint custody. If anything, she would have had to pay him because she had all the money at that time. She more than likely, with her high-paid attorneys received primary custodial custody with the authority to make all major life decisions for the children. Therefore, I highly doubt he signed his parental rights away.
Moreover, had he signed his parental rights away, he no longer had standing to go back to court to obtain Colin’s whereabouts and full custody of Hannah and Collin.
You can't just sign away your parental rights anyway. That's not a thing.
Actually, it is a thing. My relative relinquished his parental rights at the request of the child's other parent so that their spouse could adopt the child.

Anonymous wrote:The kids will get older and eventually form their own belief systems. It takes time to change the beliefs and attitudes and world view you had, if you truly believed it was right when you were young. Many don't really have enough life experience or independence away from the influences until late 20s to really form a new worldview. Some may never change but I am sure ten years from now, the relationships between siblings will be different.
I saw a post from another guy who was at the same facility as Collin when he was there at 12. The guy didn't interact much with Collin personally but said the most talked about thing was how Collin had no visitors as many of the kids had very frequent family visitors. The guy posting said his family lived nearby and someone stopped by daily and that it was very rare at this facility to never have visitors or family involvement. So not only did Collin get abandoned there but he had to watch everyone else visit with family while he had no one.

Anonymous wrote:The saddest thing is she turned siblings against him. Mady most likely erased her crazy statement as she is working in the influencer world and clearly someone got to her and told her the she has zero public support trashing her brother. Having a parent turn siblings against each other is so awful because in the end you have your siblings when the parents have long since passed. I see this in non famous families too but Kate raised it to a whole disgusting level. If Colin cannot defend himself because he is in basic training then it speaks volumes that those who know him are defending him. You know I remember years back Kate doing an interview with the twins and they seemed so angry even then so perhaps they need to evaluate if they are taking their anger out against wrong parent.
