So we will only approve of a baby being born if the baby will have a privileged and problem free childhood?
Let's start with....wanted. Every child deserves to be wanted.
Every child deserves to be born. You don’t get to decide that because a child’s family doesn’t meet your standards, they should die.
Sorry. They don't "deserve" anything until they are born.
I’m “pro choice” and would disagree with you. I think every child deserves parents who will take care of it. That means mom getting good prenatal care (medicaid), nutrition (WIC) avoiding drugs and nicotine and alcohol, etc., so it will be born healthy. I also think a woman who becomes pregnant should carry the pregnancy if they think they can. *if they think they can* I’d critical. And that as a country we should support them legally with things like job protections, protections against discrimination, and maternal leave— and financially if necessary, so women can have and care for babies if the choose. And *care for* is important— a social safety net and food, childcare and support after birth is essential. I believe abortions should be safe, legal and as rare as possible. But that’s my belief system. How I have chosen to live my life. I am not going to impose that on you. You need to make your own decisions for your family, your child and yourself, consulting with your doctor. Plus, your partner and your God, if you feel it’s appropriate. It’s a private decision. I get to have an opinion. I get to voice my opinion and try to convince in a non-harassing, constructive manner that I am right. To vote for laws that make it easy for women to access contraception, like the ACA, and easier to care for the babies once they have them. But, I do not get to force my opinions on you. You don’t criminalize first trimester abortion. You make it available for good cause in the second trimester— certainly life and health of mother, health of fetus. You don’t prosecute women for abusing an unborn child unless the behavior rises to a level that you would bring criminal charges if the baby was born. Not poor nutrition. Not a drug addiction you don’t support her in treating. There is more than one way to be pro choice. Many of us would not personally choose abortion. But are not about to make the decision for other women— many of whom are in terrible situations we have never had to deal with.
