OP here. Several reasons. I expected Stoddert to provide the most Hardy students for three reasons. First and foremost, the principal at Hardy was principal at Stoddert immediately prior. Many families know and trust her. Second, sheer numbers. Stoddert is very large. Third, economics. The Stoddert catchment is more economically diverse than the other schools. For Mann, most of these point the other direction. Mann is small and, probably, the wealthiest of the DCPS. But Mann has been very. active in the movement to get kids to continue to Hardy. The principal at Mann has the complete trust of the parents, and she's putting her support behind Hardy. This is the single biggest factor for Mann and many families (clearly) are heeding her guidance. (The comment about embassy folks is misguided in my experience. Most embassy staff have private school paid for if they want it. I know lots of embassy folks and many choose the local public elementary despite being able to costlessly attend WIS or the French School, for example.) Key is large but it has never seemed particularly engaged with Hardy. For sure, Mann appears more present and Key appears willing to wait for Stoddert and Mann to initiate the transition. I expected fewer Key students this year. I was figuring about this many Key students next year, so I wil have to revise my projections upward. I think we will see a large uptick, even from this year's numbers, next year from Mann and Stoddert. Double the numbers this year would be a reachable stretch projection.
