Bye, bye DOJ independence
The DOJ has always been consulted to determine if a presidents actions are lawful or not. Remember when Obama went back and forth with his DOJ about what he could legally do about the Dreamers?
That's not the point. The DOJ has traditionally been independent from the White House when making criminal prosecution decisions - it's one of our democratic norms followed by Presidents of both parties. That is now gone. Kaput. The President can now order DOJ to investigate/prosecute whoever he likes, with no fear of prosecution. You might to read what Nixon did - the Supreme Court now says that's OK. https://www.cnn.com/2017/10/28/politics/justice-department-interference/index.html
The Supreme Court isn't in charge of the Attorney General or the DOJ. The AG can reaffirm independence from the executive office. Also, the second paragraph in that section should be read in light of the first section. Had DOJ sent out the letter regarding election fraud, then that would be an unofficial act with merely-presumptive non-absolute immunity.
