I’m looking forward to all the domestic travel deals over the next two years. Prices have gotten crazy post pandemic. A severe demand shock should get things back in order. Might end up killing the AirBnB market, too, which would be a huge win for many communities. Of course some businesses are going to go under, but that’s just the price the MAGA owners need to pay to make America great. Not everyone has what it takes.
Prices are already coming down in many places popular with overseas travelers. I visit Phoenix on a regular basis throughout the year and have for several years. The hotel prices fluctuate greatly between the off season (summer), where you can get a mid level hotel (Hilton Garden/Marriott Courtyard) for $99 and peak season (March) where the same hotel is over $350. When I booked a hotel for March travel, it was under $200. The same hotel last year was $350. This past weekend, I made a last minute reservation at a hotel vacation property for about $150. Others had reservations at a Hilton for $130.
