People may know him or his fame is tied to Nicole’s celebrity. But in terms of country music cred, it’s all him. He didn’t gain county music fans because of her. His last albums aren’t selling because they’re less and less country - at a time country is swinging back to more tradition country and even folksy. His last blockbuster hit was 10 years ago. Also, modern country radio and fans age out their stars. He’s almost 60. He’s had a great run and he still does well on arena/amphitheater tours, especially in Canada and Australia. It will be interesting if the new show with Blake Shelton will find an audience.
Right but a few folks are trying to have it both ways. It’s true musicians tend to put out their best selling stuff when they are young with a few exceptions but the point of him being as old as he is as he came up in a time when people were selling records. It was just much easier. If you got a major record label, you just shot past 99.9% of people versus today where anyone can put out their own stuff on social media, and it could go viral. So even with all the advantages of coming up the traditional way, and putting out his most successful music when people were still buying records, he really did not sell that many records. It just seems weird people are trying to make Keith Urban happen. I guess it’s a dig at Nicole? People hate her because she’s had a bunch of plastic surgery or she’s aging? I don’t know. I don’t get it. It’s a weird defense of him. He’s been moderately successful. There’s no doubt his marriage has helped him stay relevant.
