I still posit that teachers are underpaid given the value add of (good) public education to society. $35k/year is criminal, but $80k-100k is low in a high COL area like DC. Coming from a wealthy suburb in the NYC metro where the useless school admin bureaucrats were paid $300k+ year while the actual teachers made 1/3 of that (AND they still asked for donations for school supplies??!!) I want to see that money redirected towards the people actually educating our kids and towards classrooms. Our priorities are all backwards in this country, we easily pay 6 figure entry-level IT salaries and cry about teachers getting that much, we can do better. I guarantee that the value add to society of a Jr data scientist in Deloitte is FAR less than an elementary school teacher. [/quote]
