The money at Georgetown is likely grant aid based on financial need. Grants don’t need to be repaid, but it is not merit aid. Merit has nothing to do with financial aid. In casual conversations with people, even students/parents who received grant aid frequently call it merit. It’s not, but the financial impact is similar, except that grant aid must be renewed annually based on family finances and is not guaranteed, but merit is a sure thing, as long as the student maintains the required GPA and credit hours.
