All the party would do in this case is fund the other candidate and get big endorsements lined up.[/quote] Cawthorn has a double digit lead over the next closest contender in the Republican primary for that district, even after taking an 8-point hit from some of these earlier scandals. Defeating him isn’t as simple as just giving more money to someone else. Also, there are probably restrictions on the state party giving any campaign funds to individuals running for the nomination.
