I am confused as to why we need to mask again. What am I missing here? Cases increased a bit while MoCo was masked. How does that logically make the case for returning to masks? I don't get it.
You're missing that this is what the county regulation currently says: the indoor mask requirement automatically goes into effect when the transmission rate is "substantial" (50-99 new cases in a 7-day period per 100,000 residents) or higher. https://apps.montgomerycountymd.gov/CCLLIMS/ResolutionDetailsPage?RecordId=10186 Which it did on October 29 (50.63), October 30 (53.50), and October 31 (51.78). I, personally, believe that this will prove to be a blip, with the rate going from just below 50 to just above 50 and then back down to just below 50. However, there's no way to know that until it actually happens. Now, is it good public policy to have the requirement on again/off again/on again etc. from day to day? I, personally, don't think so. More significantly, it looks like several members of the county council don't think so, which is why they're meeting (as the county board of health) to discuss it tomorrow.
