We can thank all those covid deniers who just want to pretend its no big deal for all the folks dead around the world and in the US.

This is fair.

I will not wear a mask. If I get Covid, I will STFU about it and rest until I'm recovered.

I accept that deal

Wouldn’t that make more sense?

not really. Why force people to wear masks when the cases are low? Covid is here to stay in one way, shape or form. Are you suggesting we wear masks forever?

I’m saying exactly what I said. I’ll repeat it for you for clarity: keep masking until there are no more reported cases.

Is that clear enough?

No, actually it’s not clear enough, that’s like saying we have to wear masks until the common cold finally goes away. Covid is here to stay and is not going anywhere so there will never not be zero cases what part of that don’t you understand ? do I have to repeat?

Colds and flu were way way down last year. Clearly masking is a good idea.

yeah, I'm sure virtual school and remote telework had nothing to do with that...

Here's the real problem: you get extremely frustrated because you can't control my behavior. You may want me to wear a mask, but you simply cannot force me to do it. And despite their being a 'mandate', there's no teeth behind it. If there's no penalty for not wearing a mask, is there really a mandate?

As a MoCo resident, over the past few months, I've found the store that don't care if I wear a mask. And I do my shopping there.

You'll be a much happier person once you accept the fact that you cannot control my behavior, and I cannot control yours.

Yes and I’m not disputing that masks work or don’t work but you have to remember that last year schools were virtual and people were teleworking. Now we are back in person, in the offices and there is more chances of getting sick. And if somebody who already has my booster I need to reiterate that this was never about keeping colds and flu down. This is about Covid and in Montgomery county where 97+ percent of the people are vaccinated having a mask mandate is theater. We don’t need a mask mandate. Let people have the freedom to decide for themselves. And the slight increase in cases had nothing to do with removing the masks so again it’s time for common sense to prevail.

Welcome to the where the majority of the country has been for months and months with no more or less COVID than the areas with the fear mask mandates.

Cases increased a bit while MoCo was masked. How does that logically make the case for returning to masks?
I don't get it.

You're missing that this is what the county regulation currently says: the indoor mask requirement automatically goes into effect when the transmission rate is "substantial" (50-99 new cases in a 7-day period per 100,000 residents) or higher.

https://apps.montgomerycountymd.gov/CCLLIMS/ResolutionDetailsPage?RecordId=10186

Which it did on October 29 (50.63), October 30 (53.50), and October 31 (51.78).

I, personally, believe that this will prove to be a blip, with the rate going from just below 50 to just above 50 and then back down to just below 50. However, there's no way to know that until it actually happens.

Now, is it good public policy to have the requirement on again/off again/on again etc. from day to day? I, personally, don't think so. More significantly, it looks like several members of the county council don't think so, which is why they're meeting (as the county board of health) to discuss it tomorrow.

??? What on earth is wrong with you? People who have had two, maybe three, covid vaccines and are following current county guidelines are not being selfish.

You seriously need help.

They are a bit unhinged BUT, you can still get and spread covid vaccinated so that is the concern. They are absolutely being selfish as masking is just as important as vaccines according to some studies.

I’m failing to understand the “selfishness” of following the guidelines currently in place in a county with one of the highest vaccination rates in the nation. No one is stopping you from wearing a mask if that makes you feel safer. Covid is going to be endemic, so by your logic masking indoors should be mandated indefinitely, which is something that just isn’t going to happen. Focus on what you can control instead of trying to control other people’s behavior.

The ONLY reason there is for covid to be endemic is idiots not wearing masks and breathing it in and getting infected. If you wear a mask, the mask will filter it out and stop it. My 3 year old understands this. It’s sad that so many adult dummies here don’t.

We will never get rid of covid if there are people who won’t mask.

The combination of scientific ignorance and self-confidence that go into these statements is breath-taking, and has been throughout the pandemic. Too bad that public policy has been based on politicians and bureaucrats exhibiting the same thing as PP.

What are you prattling on about? Where’s the scientific ignorance here? Please show all of us!

Colds and flu were way way down last year. Clearly masking is a good idea.

First, we don't track data on colds, so you don't know that. Second, flu was down and the thinking is that coronaviruses occupy the same environmental niche as influenza, and coronaviruses spread more easily so took that space.

Clearly, keeping schools and offices closed also mitigated spread, as did immediate paranoia and quarantine when anyone started to feel sick. Given the known weaknesses of masks and the lack of controlled studies that prove your assertion, I would say that you have about enough data to decide to wear a mask yourself, but not make public policy.

There ae plenty of studies stating makes help. You just pick and choose what science you want to believe to meet your needs. It should be public policy as many people cannot self regulate.

The CDC recommends masking. The same people who are pushing vaccines. So, are they not reputable?

Not PP, and disclaimer yes we’re vaccinated. There were actual albeit accelerated trials and methods used for that for emergency approval by the FDA.

Mask have had no such study, and are easily refuted if you look at even local data. Different rules, no relationship in outcomes. To further discredit the CDC, and epidemiologist as a community, last year many so called experts that were advising governments, flip flopped. When it was a Trump protest, that was a outbreak threat. BLM though wasn’t. They weren’t even consistent in the application of their logic.

DC was one of the most restrictive and paradoxically highest. The surrounding counties to the west have had different mask policies in two different states and yet similar rates.

But those are just facts and evidence. Continue to live in fear of the world though. If you’re masked at this point, either you’re not vaccinated or a fool.

I have no issue with people being massless but c’mon - why cell masked people fools? Why the contention? Live and let live.

The danger is adverse behavior, that is if you believe masks work, and then engage in “risky” activity when in fact they do nothing.

Nevermind the categorically falsehood that they do work. Again just compare even the local county data. Different adherence, no relationship in outcomes.
