Kate also probably had to work / endure years of dismissive treatment /earning respect from those very staff given her background and some of the treatment from the press regarding her family history. They criticized her for smiling at a Christmas service. Say what you will, there is a much stronger class system in England and it has a lot of tentacles. She has had more work on that front than anyone acknowledges.

Meghan is probably not interested in any of that, easily dispensing with boatloads of rules, both explicit and implied / cultural norms, hugging people, wearing necklines, doing her "hurricane" thing, etc. No escaping the cultural differences on that front. While we identify with her approach in its americcanness, it is a horror for the British.[/b] They still have an embedded class system that influences who speaks first, esp at the upper echelons of society, etc.This is not British, and undoubtedly rubs people the wrong way. I think you hit on some key points that are probably true. I also don't think we should sugarcoat how Kate and her family were viewed early on - jokes about "doors to manual" referring to her mother, the Eton set making fun of her and Pippa's expressions of speech, etc. By the time they got married, most of that had passed and Kate had a long training period, especially ensconced up in that cottage in Anglesey, Wales.[/quote]
