Crucial as in the crux/main sets of motivations of what holds these couples together. I don't think either of their motivations were pure; they are both savvy women in their own ways.

I agree with that. These brothers were considered very eligible bachelors for obvious reasons. It would be naive to think these were simple love matches.

Would it matter if they were? Kate and her family latched on to William like leeches starting when he was a vulnerable teenager who just lost his mother. Yes, google it - Stalker Kate followed him to Chile when he was just 17. When his university choice became public at 19 guess who switched into a program hundreds of miles away from where she was? It doesn’t take a genius to see what she was after. Then 10 years of following him around with no job, no life, and nothing to show for herself. It was creepy and weird.

I think you hit on some key points that are probably true. I also don't think we should sugarcoat how Kate and her family were viewed early on - jokes about "doors to manual" referring to her mother, the Eton set making fun of her and Pippa's expressions of speech, etc. By the time they got married, most of that had passed and Kate had a long training period, especially ensconced up in that cottage in Anglesey, Wales.
