Its also OK to have a different priority set. You can decide that education isn't your top priority. I know people in other areas who did decide that top schools weren't their biggest priority. They wanted a bigger house and to feel like the "richer people" in the school rather than the "poorer people". They are perfectly fine and proud of this choice so more power to them. What is so strange in this area is that the people in the bad DCC schools seem to want to pretend that their schools aren't bad. They can't be that clueless, its pretty clear that Blair, Einstein and Wheaton are not strong school.

If education isn't a priority then choose Einstein or Wheaton and own your decision. You'll probably have a bigger house or feel more "on top".

Test scores of demographic cohorts at these schools are almost identical to all other MCPS schools. The quality of education is the same. The difference is fewer low SES kids bringing down the average. So basically your idea of a good school is one that is highly segregated?[/quote]

They use new SAT scoring now. At every school in the county, the SAT scores of the white kids are within 100 points of the white kid average of 1223. So the entire range of white kids' averages is 1100-1300. This is otherwise known as about the increase associated with having taken a test prep course. So, I wouldn't use SAT scores as the reason why you should buy a $1.5 million house instead of a $500k house.[/quote]

Cliff Notes: White kids at Blair have higher SAT scores than white kids at Wooton, Churchill, Wooten and Poolesville. White kids at WJ are only 100-150 points above white kids at Wheaton and Einstein (which I'm sure can be attributed to class differences more than anything else).[/quote]
