Leaving Oakton and Chantilly over capacity with 800 empty seats at Westfield and 400 empty seats at South Lakes is appalling.
As has been noted, those who go to Chantilly live very close. Why should they get ripped from their beloved, close school to attend a school further away simply because FCPS needs to backfill a school that they put in this position because they decided to purchase KAA without community feedback prior? Maybe if they had the balls to put Crossfield plus Fox Mill at Skyview, then they could have left more kids at Westfield.
The kids from Westfield being assigned to Skyview should never have been at Westfield. That is the problem. Ironic: I looked at the petition from the Centreville people and their justification for staying at Centreville is the same justification for putting Westfield kids at Skyview. There are people who live equidistant from Centreville and Westfield who could be assigned there to relieve Centreville. There are people who live equidistant from Chantilly and Westfield who could be assigned there. I agree that Crossfield should not be assigned to Oakton. Without this school, Chantilly would still be overcrowded. Westfield would be overcrowded, too. But, the logical solution is to send Walney area--including Walney Oaks to Westfield. And, to send half of Bull Run to Westfield that is equidistant from Centreville and Westfield. Walney Oaks is halfway between the schools and right next to current Westfield neighborhoods. Those areas between Centreville and Westfield are next to current Westfield neighborhoods. Some are not close to either school, but the travel time is the same.
