As has been noted, those who go to Chantilly live very close. Why should they get ripped from their beloved, close school to attend a school further away simply because FCPS needs to backfill a school that they put in this position because they decided to purchase KAA without community feedback prior? Maybe if they had the balls to put Crossfield plus Fox Mill at Skyview, then they could have left more kids at Westfield.
There is really no reasonable scenario where they could have left more kids at Westfield. The Westfield kids going to Skyview are right next to Skyview, and far from Westfield. It would have made zero sense to leave them at Westfield.

Its all one school system. Why should the kids at Westfield lose 1/3rd of their teachers and classmates and be reduced to very limited course options compared to all the surrounding schools?

They should have made it an AI/Robotics/Engineering magnet school. They would have had a full school and it would have drawn from all the other schools - with no arguing.
This is an epic disaster.
The SB and Reid have failed the schools. Having some schools between 75-85% capacity and others at over 105% when there is a new high school and plenty of space at other schools is irresponsible. Decimating schools like Westfield and South Lakes to ensure the rich constituents are taken care of is just plain wrong and goes against the principles of education. These schools will lose electives and teachers and continue on a downward spiral. These redistricting decisions are so blatantly classist and racist. Vote for a new SB folks.
Democrat here who hates how left the school board is.
Your constant whining about classism and racism are what drives people straight into maga. Your views are not mainstream, even in the Democratic party.
If you think FCPS is racist, Then frankly you likely believe that everyone in the world is racist. Just absurd.
DP. It’s so obvious when a poster like you is coming from a place of extreme privilege that you want to preserve at all costs. You really can’t understand that people at South Lakes and Westfield don’t want to see their schools gutted?
I am not interested in social engineering the public school system into the ground in the name of equity. I think the skyview purchase was rushed and probably not well thought through.
But when someone comes on this board and whines about the far left school board being racist, it’s laughably absurd.
The only social engineering going on is in the opposite manner of what you think. Neighborhoods right next to Skyview for example are not going there. Neighborhoods within a couple miles of South Lakes are going to Madison. And a lot folks who should be going to Westfield are not going. All rich neighborhoods. So yeah buddy, there is social engineering going on. Probably in the way you like though right so you wouldn’t call that social engineering.

..??The neighborhoods right next to Skyview ARE going there.

be a lot less ridiculous and straight forward if there was no classist favors and social engineering. Wealthy areas being sent all the way to stay at overcrowded Oakton when at least four high school buildings are closer? A new island for Westfield that is one low income apartment? Walney Oaks pulling strings and getting moved while we watched? GMAFB.
