I recently read Neville's review/comparison of Messi vs Ronaldo which I think is apt for Messi vs most players.

He said as they are now in their mid-30s, Ronaldo has lost some speed/athleticism due to age and his game has gone done.  While Messi has also, the difference is Messi's creativity and being able to play so well in his head that he can make up for the difference, create opportunities for himself and others and doesn't rely on physicality.
