I think her storyline was so nicely done. She seems to come from an underprivileged background. She seems like she is a decent person but her adult life did not come to fruition as she envisioned. She is not very strong willed or ambitious so she has a less than mediocre journalism career. Understandably, she was star struck by Shane's wealth and access in the world, to the point of ignoring his less than stellar personal qualities...In the end she decides she would rather have access to his wealth and privilege than be someone like Armond, broke and put upon by the wealthy.
