Do we even know of the BLC players are going to Capital? Several have been looking at the Maryland teams.
The overwhelming majority of BLC players are expected to move on to Capital. There’s no harm in securing a few offers from Maryland clubs as well, there’s no loyalty in club lacrosse. Keep your options open, see how things develop, and make a decision when the time comes.
Players have to make a decision the next day and sign the contract. I’m not sure how a player who’s accepted on Capital can wait till the July tryouts to make a decision between Capital and a Baltimore team with that timeline.
We’ve been having the same conversation in our house. If DD makes cap blue we accept the spot and are fine, if it’s orange we would like to do all of the other 2030 tryouts because there are likely better options but then we give up our orange spot and risk being shut out entirely. We are a BLC family but our DD is not one of their top players. What is everyone else thinking here?
Our family is in a similar situation. If Capital is truly the best players in the DC area, my thinking is that Capital Orange will be a great team. It’s entirely possible they are a top 20-30 team. I’d rather take an Orange spot now than wait for all the Baltimore tryouts. Baltimore A teams will only take the top 1-2 players from DC area teams. I don’t like the risk that comes from passing up the Capital spot. The frustration I feel with this situation is mostly focused on the existence of a HS only team that causes this chaos for everyone. Does this exist in any other area?
Orange in the top 20-30 is not a realistic goal. Cap Blue has kind of settled since the 2026's in that area, and with players moving to MD teams of late that's likely to continue. Similarly, Orange is probably trying to shoot for the top half of the 50-70 range every year, the range they've also been in. Hero's and M&D B teams more regularly scrape into the 30 areas, but you're talking even there with established teams that if the players don't go club hopping in HS, make it tough to break in. Plus the drive. With Cap, you're banking on the recruiting to punch above their weight, and any parent can look at their commit list over the years to get a general idea what that will mean. As far as HS only team -- if any program put together what was needed to maintain a top team through high school, then there's no chaos for that team. But they haven't.
