The overwhelming majority of BLC players are expected to move on to Capital. There’s no harm in securing a few offers from Maryland clubs as well, there’s no loyalty in club lacrosse. Keep your options open, see how things develop, and make a decision when the time comes.

Players have to make a decision the next day and sign the contract. I’m not sure how a player who’s accepted on Capital can wait till the July tryouts to make a decision between Capital and a Baltimore team with that timeline.

We’ve been having the same conversation in our house. If DD makes cap blue we accept the spot and are fine, if it’s orange we would like to do all of the other 2030 tryouts because there are likely better options but then we give up our orange spot and risk being shut out entirely. We are a BLC family but our DD is not one of their top players. What is everyone else thinking here?

Our family is in a similar situation. If Capital is truly the best players in the DC area, my thinking is that Capital Orange will be a great team. It’s entirely possible they are a top 20-30 team. I’d rather take an Orange spot now than wait for all the Baltimore tryouts. Baltimore A teams will only take the top 1-2 players from DC area teams. I don’t like the risk that comes from passing up the Capital spot.

The frustration I feel with this situation is mostly focused on the existence of a HS only team that causes this chaos for everyone. Does this exist in any other area?

Orange team historically has been around 50. Highest may have been in the lower 40s and some in the 60s. No way they field a team that cracks top 30. Too many DC area players either already play for MD clubs or look elsewhere if offered orange if they believe they are good enough.

Most of the MD B teams are in that same 50-70 range except M&D Red, they are in the 25-40 range, so Capital Orange gives DC area players a local option. M&D red doesn't likley have many spots they are trying to fill and the drive to where they practice is pretty far. M&D DC and YJ DMV are in the 50-70 range assuming they both remain competitive which is TBD based on all the DCUM comments.

It's certainly a sacrifice. A short one but well worth it for our daughter. I'm glad we didn't choose Capital.

I’m curious what team your daughter is on if you don’t mind

Where are tryouts being held at?
On the other side of the bushes.

They likely reached capacity for the number of coaches/evaluators and have already accounted for the players that are “preselected” or that did well during the evaluation clinics.

Yea if my kid makes a capital team, I don’t really care to socialize unless you get penalized for it. The goal is to put my DD on a competive team that has draw to have coaches make the effort to come see. Recruiting always been about your DD making first contact and maintaining a relationship and interest. To me capital provides the draw because if its reputation of pulling in college quality talent.

Is there something else missing I’m not seeing. For some parents, it’s about using Lax to get into an academic competitive school or get a discount on cost. I care less if DD sits on a bench if she’s getting a discounted education.

Players on Orange are treated like second class citizens by Blue team players and parents, Cap Leadership and recruiting director. The program has a motto of "FAMILY." From our experience, that was for the Blue team only. Orange is an after thought. Maybe that is the case for all B teams, but it seemed particularly pronounced at Cap. Was so obvious and could have been easily addressed with some minimal gestures.

This is the case for almost all Clubs, if you want to be treated like a 1st team player, go to a club where you can make their top team.

Orange in the top 20-30 is not a realistic goal. Cap Blue has kind of settled since the 2026's in that area, and with players moving to MD teams of late that's likely to continue. Similarly, Orange is probably trying to shoot for the top half of the 50-70 range every year, the range they've also been in.
Hero's and M&D B teams more regularly scrape into the 30 areas, but you're talking even there with established teams that if the players don't go club hopping in HS, make it tough to break in. Plus the drive.
With Cap, you're banking on the recruiting to punch above their weight, and any parent can look at their commit list over the years to get a general idea what that will mean.

As far as HS only team -- if any program put together what was needed to maintain a top team through high school, then there's no chaos for that team. But they haven't.

This Capital process is crazy.

Thought about doing it for DD but so glad we opted for a Maryland club.
