I have tried finding this answer elsewhere and failed so hoping someone here knows: DD has an offer for a regional team and an alternate offer from a national team she’d prefer. Are we able to accept the regional offer before the deadline and then switch to the national team if we get an offer after Tuesday (understanding we’d lose our regional team deposit)? Or does DD have to choose between guaranteed spot on regional team OR possible spot on national team - in other words, accepting the regional offer commits her to that team and means she cannot take the possible alternate offer if it comes in? (I was thinking this would be more like college admissions, where people take waitlist offers and switch schools after the deposit deadline and just lose the deposit to the first school, but certain aspects of both the regional and national team offer email make me worry that is not the case.)
I assume the offers are from different clubs? If so, what you’re suggesting is frowned upon. A coach/club will make decisions on the remainder of the roster based on who has accepted. If your DD accepts a spot on the regional team they think they have that roster spot filled and will not make offers based on that. Putting together a club team with +/- 12 players is not the same as a college admitting students for a class of hundreds or thousands. They are trying to find the best 2-3 players available to them for each position. That said, players do back out of accepted offers every year. Some clubs will be nice about it and others won’t. In every case it burns the bridge with that club. The rules that give you until 10pm on Tuesday are designed to give a player time to get several offers and then make a decision. If a club is telling you to wait until after Tuesday to maybe get an offer, it most likely means they are waiting to see if another player they have made an offer to accepts. That’s fine, but know that probably means your DD is not high on their list and it could be an uphill battle for playing time. If you haven’t already accepted the offer for the regional team, I would wait. They have to keep it open until 10pm on Tuesday. Hopefully your preferred team comes back with an offer (or tells you no offer is coming) before then.
