The best outcome is an offer. If you don't get an offer, a call back is better than a rejection. You are still on their radar, but they have other players at about the same level. They want to see all those players on the same court to make a better decision on who gets an offer and who doesn't.

DD has an offer for a regional team and an alternate offer from a national team she’d prefer. Are we able to accept the regional offer before the deadline and then switch to the national team if we get an offer after Tuesday (understanding we’d lose our regional team deposit)? Or does DD have to choose between guaranteed spot on regional team OR possible spot on national team - in other words, accepting the regional offer commits her to that team and means she cannot take the possible alternate offer if it comes in? (I was thinking this would be more like college admissions, where people take waitlist offers and switch schools after the deposit deadline and just lose the deposit to the first school, but certain aspects of both the regional and national team offer email make me worry that is not the case.)
I assume the offers are from different clubs? If so, what you’re suggesting is frowned upon. A coach/club will make decisions on the remainder of the roster based on who has accepted. If your DD accepts a spot on the regional team they think they have that roster spot filled and will not make offers based on that. Putting together a club team with +/- 12 players is not the same as a college admitting students for a class of hundreds or thousands. They are trying to find the best 2-3 players available to them for each
then.
Understood, but I assumed that if DD gave up her spot on the regional team they would go to their waitlist which would have a couple other girls they thought could be good options for the position.
This approach would seem to maximize happiness - national team and DD would both get their preferred outcome (vs national team having to go deeper into their waitlist with a less desired player if DD declines and DD getting a less preferred team).
We’re not trying to be shady or burn bridges - this is our first time and we just didn’t fully understand how it works.

From experience, phone call right away if they really want you with an email after tryouts. Email too if they really want you within the hour after tryouts.
